Coming Soon to Facebook: New Twilight Short Films

Image
It's a revival! Twilight will be having another moment in the pop culture spotlight (as if it ever left!), thanks to a new announcement by Lions Gate (current owner of Summit). The New York Times reports: Lions Gate and Stephenie Meyer, the creator of the vampires-and-werewolves “Twilight” saga, on Tuesday announced plans to select five aspiring female directors to make short films based on “Twilight” characters. The mini-movies, financed by Lions Gate and its production partners, will be shown exclusively on Facebook next year. The short film series, called “The Storytellers — New Creative Voices of ‘The Twilight Saga,’ ” has the backing of Women in Film, an organization devoted in part to ending a shortage of female directors. While not overtly championed by Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s chief operating officer, the initiative could be viewed in the context of her “Lean In” efforts to empower women in the workplace.

'Dazzled by Twilight' Store Destroyed by Fire

Image
The Twilight community is saddened by the news that a much-loved store in Forks, Washington has been destroyed by an early morning fire.  Amy from P2P posted: Early this morning, October 29, the building that housed Dazzled by Twilight in Forks, Wash. went up in flames.  The store closed in January of this year and according to news reports was banked owned.  For Twilight fans, Dazzled by Twilight was the shopping mecca of Forks while it was in business.  When I first traveled up to the Olympic Peninsula in October 2009, there were three Dazzled storefronts – one in Port Angeles and two in Forks.  The one in Port Angeles closed in December 2011 and the former store is now occupied  by an antique store.  The Dazzled by Twilight Forks locations closed suddenly on January 22, 2012. Dazzled wasn’t just a store, it was an environment.  They had a tree with Bella and Edward’s name carved into it. They had a mural of St. James Island ...

'Twilight' at Comic-Con 2012 on Thursday

The Twilight panel will make an appearance at Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego, California, on Thursday. Chances are a new poster would be released, but nothing new so far. Fingers crossed, though. Also, a sad news has befallen a Twilight fan at Comic-Con. A 53-year old Twilighter, nicknamed 'G' ( @mad4hugh ), has passed away. She was involved in an accident when crossing the street near Hall H at the San Diego Convention Centre. Condolences to her friends and family #RIPTwiFanG . via TwiLex , TwiExaminer

More Twilight After 'Breaking Dawn'

Now that Lionsgate has acquired Summit , they inherit the entire Twilight Saga franchise. According to the CEO of Lionsgate, there might be a sixth Twilight film after Breaking Dawn - Part 2 ! There’s a chance The Twilight Saga could continue after the fifth film opens in November. The bombshell was reportedly dropped by Jon Feltheimer, the chief executive officer of Lionsgate Entertainment, which acquired Twilight studio Summit Entertainment for $412.5 million on Friday. “I’m anticipating Breaking Dawn – Part 2 being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office,” said Feltheimer of the final (planned) installment in the hit vampire franchise. According to the Los Angeles Times, when asked whether Lionsgate could envision more Twilight past next fall’s fifth film, Feltheimer left the door open. “It’s hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn’t have ongoing value,” he said. “It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no...

'Breaking Dawn’ Allegedly Causing Seizures?

Reports have surfaced that some brief flashing scenes in Breaking Dawn is causing epileptic seizures in America (of all places). If you have watched it and made it out without getting one, then good for you. *SPOILER ALERT* The scene is indeed brief and most of it has been cut from Malaysian cinemas. Still, proceed with caution

Malicious Hackers Target Twilight Fans

Watch out for scams, Twilighters!! As the next movie in the Twilight Saga film series nears its premiere, malicious hackers are taking advantage of Twilight fans by poisoning links in Twilight-related searches with malware, Norton’s experts warn. Some of the search terms which will return results infected with malware are “Nude pictures of Taylor Lautner,” “Robert and Kristin kissing” and “Twilight true love.” Clicking on some of the links resulting from these searches might get your PC, tablet or smartphone infected with viruses or keyloggers, so be extra careful when searching for Twilight-related material. Twilight Saga fans are a common target for malicious hackers. In April 2011, we’ve seen a Twilight game scam spread virally on Facebook, and similar scams have accompanied every movie in the series. Norton‘s experts expect to see even more Twilight-related malware, scams and spam as the excitement around the movie grows. via Mashable

Beware of 'Breaking Dawn Pt. 2' Facebook Scam

Another scam involving Twilight has surfaced, this time using Breaking Dawn Pt. 2 as bait. MSNBC reports: Team Jacob or Team Edward? If you've got an answer, then you're a perfect target for a new "Twilight"-themed Facebook scam currently spreading around the massive, and massively exploitable, social network. Detected by researchers from the security firm Trend Micro, this new scam promises free tickets to see "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2." Sounds great, right? Who wouldn't want free tickets to a wildly anticipated movie There are two catches to this otherwise great offer. The first, of course, is that "Breaking Dawn, Part 2" isn't scheduled to hit big screens until Nov. 12, 2012, well after the Nov. 18, 2011 release of "Part 1." If that doesn’t raise a red flag, and you find yourself driven uncontrollably — like, say a vampire — to score these free movie tickets and see how the passionate relationship between...

Summit Identifies 'Breaking Dawn' Photo Hacker, War of Words Ensues

Image
A few months ago, some Breaking Dawn Pt 1 set photos leaked. Not sure if I posted any, but chances are, I didn't because it's leaked. I got into minor trouble once when I posted some leaked ones. Back in March, Summit released a statement concerning leaks. The studio has now identified the hacker as a girl from Argentina. Summit Entertainment isn't kidding around in its anti-piracy efforts on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. The studio today took the unorthodox step of sending out a press release identifying the alleged culprit in a March hacking incident that ended with images of the highly-anticipated vampire romance film circulating on the Internet.  Summit's release ID's Daiana Santia of Argentina as having been involved in a group that stole photos, unfinished images and video of Breaking Dawn, which will be released in two parts beginning in November. Summit's four-continent crusade involved the services of investigation firm Kroll Inc. and law firm ...

Summit, Stephenie Meyer Not Happy with Breaking Dawn Leaks

As if Summit's fine warning isn't enough, a statement was issued by Summit and Stephenie Meyer. “As some of you may know, pictures and screen grabs of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn as a work in progress have leaked on the internet. We are extremely proud of this film and also extremely heartbroken to see it out there at this stage. The film and these images are not yet ready or in their proper context. They were illegally obtained and their early dissemination is deeply upsetting to the actors, the filmmakers and Summit who are working so hard to bring these movies to fruition to you in November 2011 and November 2012. Please, for those who are posting, stop. And please, though the temptation is high, don’t view or pass on these images. Wait for the film in its beautiful, finished entirety to thrill you. Sincerely, Stephenie Meyer, Bill Condon, Wyck Godfrey and Summit Entertainment” Those of you who are lucky enough (like me ;)) to have discovered the leaked ...

The Star Online Includes Vampires In its 'Entertainment: 2001 - 2010' Recap

Image
The Star Online compiled standout news for their " Entertainment: 2001-2010 " list, and included vampires too. 2005 Vamping it up We’ve been freaked out and fascinated by vampires since times of yore, but the last 10 years witnessed a revival of the vampire myth in several different ways. The most obvious, of course, is the Twilight phenomenon, where, thanks to Stephenie Meyer’s wildly successful teen novels (which debuted in 2005), the menacing vampire is recast as a brooding vegetarian who only wants to find his soulmate. The movie franchise that followed made instant teen idols of now-famous names like Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart (above) and Taylor Lautner. The Underworld series of movies, on the other hand, created epic battles between vampires and werewolves, who were both products of a virus that afflicts mankind. Television too, is not exempt from the current vampire trend: The Vampire Diaries (premiered in 2009) chronicles a love triangle between a teena...

Uh-oh! Dawn Trouble in Rio

Image
Looks like locals are not into vampires that much. Reports surfaced that the filming of Breaking Dawn has caused outrage amongst locals. RIO DE JANEIRO (AFP) – Filming of the final installment of the "Twilight" vampires-and-werewolves movies in Rio de Janeiro has sparked protests by locals fed up with the inconvenience, media reported Monday. Some residents in the central Lapa district where scenes from "Twilight 4: Breaking Dawn" are being filmed set fire to a crew's portable toilet Sunday and demonstrated over not being able to easily access their homes. Tough security measures were thrown up around the production after an incident in August, when cast and crew from the movie found themselves in a deadly shoot-out between criminals and police in the hotel where they were staying. Filming of the finale of "Twilight," starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, was estimated to inject around a million dollars into Rio's economy. Yikes! vi...

Zac Posen (Possible) Designer for Bella's Wedding Dress [UPDATED]

Image
Will this potentially be Bella's wedding dress? A while back, before Eclipse , InStyle featured wedding dresses for Bella by top designers. The one pictured is by Zac Posen. Now, reports have surfaced that Zac Posen will be designing Bella's wedding dress (for real!) for Breaking Dawn: Part I . ET Online is profiling top celebrity wedding designers and in the Portia de Rossi/Ellen DeGeneres wedding photo (Portia's dress was designed by Zac Posen), it's stated: "the designer is also reported to be making the wedding gown for the character of Bella Swan in the 'Twilight' films." The design above is a " pink gown (which) features a turn-of-the-century corset, bustle, full skirt, high-neck and dramatic detailed sleeves. Posen keeps to the vintage theme by finishing with lace-up boots. " Hmmm ... hopefully this ain't the final dress if he really does design the dress. Twifans via TwiExaminer . No Summer Date for 'Breaking Dawn' ... yet

Image
So we all know that Breaking Dawn: Part 1 will be released on 18th November 2011. What we do not know (for sure) yet is when Part 2 will premiere. MTV has an update on this. In June, Summit Entertainment announced that “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” will be released as two separate films, with the first part arriving on November 18, 2011. Though no release date for the second part has been announced, the conventional wisdom has been that the second part would follow in the summer of 2012. Not so fast. Summit distribution chief Richie Fay told MTV News that no such decision has been made and that the studio is still exploring multiple release dates, not just ones in the summer. “We’ve targeted a number of dates, and we have yet to determine when it will happen,” Fay said. “We haven’t even determined that it will be the summer. It’s still the source of discussions.” Of course, studios always explore various release dates for pictures, especially established blockbusters, and th...

Image
NEF finally released the rating for Eclipse . The movie has been given a PG13 rating. Initially, it was announced that the film has no cuts (yay!). However, news surfaced today that there is ONE scene which will be cut! Which scene could it be??? It's like Twilight all over again (remember Edward and Bella's first kiss??) They better not cut a good and important scene, or else!! via CinemaOnline

Eclipse premieres, breaks box office record

Image
The worldwide event every Twilighter is waiting for!!  Eclipse has finally premiered!! So far, many Twilighters say the movie is OTT awesome, and some movie critics over at Rotten Tomatoes agree with this. The movie has (as of today) received a Rotten rating of 50% (overall critics' consensus), but it got a Fresh rating of 65% from top critics (including Wall Street Journal, EW, New York Post, and TIME Magazine). New Moon got a low 27%. Critics' consensus: Stuffed with characters and overly reliant on uninspired dialogue, Eclipse won't win The Twilight Saga many new converts, despite an improved blend of romance and action fantasy. For the uninitiated who find themselves dragged to the theater, the critics say Eclipse is a big step up from New Moon -- even if it still suffers from slack pacing and portentous dialogue. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner are all back as the principals in every tween's favorite supernatural love triangle; this ti...

The Cullens are back for Breaking Dawn!

Great news! No cast replacement needed, as all of the Cullen clan will return for the final chapter! Access Hollywood reports: LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” will officially be a Cullen family reunion. After weeks of reported salary negotiations for some of the supporting cast, Summit Entertainment confirmed to Access Hollywood on Wednesday that the Cullens — Peter Facinelli, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone, Elizabeth Reaser and Nikki Reed — are all set to return for the vampire series’ final installment. Billy Burke, who plays Bella’s father Charlie Swan, will also return. Prior to the official announcement, Deadline reported on Wednesday that Ashley and Jackson were wrapping up their deals and other members of the Cullen family had already signed on. The news meant avoiding another casting shake-up for the series, which replaced the villainous Victoria with Bryce Dallas Howard for this summer’s “Eclipse” after Rachelle Lefevre...
