The Star Online compiled standout news for their "Entertainment: 2001-2010" list, and included vampires too.

Vamping it up

We’ve been freaked out and fascinated by vampires since times of yore, but the last 10 years witnessed a revival of the vampire myth in several different ways. The most obvious, of course, is the Twilight phenomenon, where, thanks to Stephenie Meyer’s wildly successful teen novels (which debuted in 2005), the menacing vampire is recast as a brooding vegetarian who only wants to find his soulmate. The movie franchise that followed made instant teen idols of now-famous names like Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart (above) and Taylor Lautner. The Underworld series of movies, on the other hand, created epic battles between vampires and werewolves, who were both products of a virus that afflicts mankind. Television too, is not exempt from the current vampire trend: The Vampire Diaries (premiered in 2009) chronicles a love triangle between a teenage girl and two vampires, while True Blood (2008) is set in a world where vampires have “outed” themselves and are struggling for equal rights.
