On her official website, Stephenie Meyer gives more details on the upcoming Twilight short films. It's called "The Storytellers: New Voices of the Twilight Saga"

Hi Friends -

On Wednesday I, along with Lionsgate, Women in Film, Facebook and Tongal, announced an exciting new project: “The Storytellers – New Creative Voices of The Twilight Saga” (or if you’re following the hashtags on social media: #TwilightStories for short.) We are teaming up to find five aspiring female filmmakers to create short films based on a broad spectrum of characters from the Twilight universe.

We’re excited to have Twilight fans participate in a variety of ways; I’m looking forward to finding out which characters you’re most interested in. If you want to refresh your memories on their stories, they’re located in the Twilight Official Guide. Which do you think are the most cinematic?

One thrilling part of the project is the amazing group of ladies teaming with me to mentor these aspiring filmmakers…

Coming Soon to Facebook: New Twilight Short Films

It's a revival! Twilight will be having another moment in the pop culture spotlight (as if it ever left!), thanks to a new announcement by Lions Gate (current owner of Summit).

The New York Times reports:

Lions Gate and Stephenie Meyer, the creator of the vampires-and-werewolves “Twilight” saga, on Tuesday announced plans to select five aspiring female directors to make short films based on “Twilight” characters. The mini-movies, financed by Lions Gate and its production partners, will be shown exclusively on Facebook next year.

The short film series, called “The Storytellers — New Creative Voices of ‘The Twilight Saga,’ ” has the backing of Women in Film, an organization devoted in part to ending a shortage of female directors. While not overtly championed by Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s chief operating officer, the initiative could be viewed in the context of her “Lean In” efforts to empower women in the workplace.
