Taylor Lautner almost missed Jacob role

It's true!
Taylor Lautner auditioned for the role of Jacob Black in Twilight at the same time he auditioned for another role in the movie adaptation of the musical Fame. He was auditioning for Fame along with actress Keke Palmer.
Keke told an interviewer: "We were both up for roles in the movie, and we both didn't get parts. He wouldn't have been able to do Twilight if he did Fame, so I'm happy he lost out."

10 years after twilight , director Catherine Hardwicke opens up to The Daily Beast on new details on the film, some we've never known before. Ten years ago, the Twilight film franchise was an unknown quantity. In fact, Catherine Hardwicke, the director of the first Twilight, was surrounded by film executives who all but expected the vampire flick to fail. “Nobody thought this is a big, blockbuster franchise,” Hardwicke tells the Daily Beast. “There were very low expectations for Twilight, because every other studio had turned it down.
