The Daily Beast Interviews Catherine Hardwicke

Image
10 years after twilight , director Catherine Hardwicke opens up to The Daily Beast on new details on the film, some we've never known before. Ten years ago, the Twilight film franchise was an unknown quantity. In fact, Catherine Hardwicke, the director of the first Twilight, was surrounded by film executives who all but expected the vampire flick to fail. “Nobody thought this is a big, blockbuster franchise,” Hardwicke tells the Daily Beast. “There were very low expectations for Twilight, because every other studio had turned it down. They said, OK, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was a very popular book for girls, and it made $39 million. That’s it. We don’t know if this could ever make us any more than that, so we don’t really want to spend more than that. The expectations were low literally up to opening weekend.” “Why do you think I got the job?” she laughs now. “Why do you think they hired a female director? If they thought it was going to be a big blockbu...

Lionsgate Co-Chairman Talks Franchises (Including Twilight!)

Patrick Wachsberger, former Summit co-chairman and current Lionsgate co-chairman, had an interview with ScreenDaily. In the interview, he talked about franchises and highlights from the companies he worked with. Naturally, Twilight got a mention. Few franchises have proven more transformative in the independent business than Twilight, which has grossed more than $3bn worldwide at the box office alone. “Twilight was a game changer for everyone involved,” he admits. Of course, this would be the best part (for us, anyway). Could we see another episode in the Robert Pattinson-Kristen Stewart behemoth? “It’s a possibility,” he says. “Not a certainty but it’s a possibility. It’s about Stephenie [novelist Stephenie Meyer]. If she wants to tell a story related to those characters we’re here for her.” IF. Time will tell. Read the full interview here . It's quite interesting. via ScreenDaily , ScreenRant

Kristen Stewart Interview with Salon.com

Kristen did an interview with Salon, and talked about her new movie Still Alice , as well as other issues. It’s no big secret that you were frustrated with all the crazy media attention you got after being in “Twilight.” Given the smaller scale of your past three movies, would you say you’ve been able to start forging the career you really want? Yeah, yeah. I’ve never tactfully maneuvered through anything I felt passionately about— my job being really, really high on that list. I haven’t planned, I haven’t thought about my trajectory or how to design my career in a way that I can get what I want. Luckily I’ve gotten what I wanted naturally — I’m such a lucky bastard— but I had no idea “Twilight” was going to be a big deal, it blew up. It’s always hard to compare projects and I think each moment we live obviously makes us the person we are right now, so each project has a bit of a through-line because it is me at different stages of my life but they don’t have anything to do with...

'Breaking Dawn Part 2' VFX Interviews

Image
Here's an oldie but a goodie. Art of VFX posted up interviews (from 2012, FYI) with two guys who worked on the special effects for Breaking Dawn Part 1 and 2 . Eric Leven , the VFX Supervisor from Tippett Studio, worked on the wolves. How was the collaboration with director Bill Condon? It was the best part of the film; Bill was incredibly collaborative and really allowed us to take the wolf scenes where we wanted to go with them. He also treated the wolves as characters, and not props or “assets”. His direction was “Jacob seems sad, but should be concerned” instead of “Jacob’s head is too low”. This is absolutely the best way to work with a director and I think made the scenes with the wolves as good as they could be. What have you done on this show? We created the all digital wolves for both BREAKING DAWN 1 and 2. Can you tell us more about the snowflakes creation? The snowflakes we generated for only for sticking in the wolves’ fur, and our effects ...

Stephenie Meyer and Kristen Stewart Interview with LA Times

Image
LA Times had an interview with Kristen and Stephenie Meyer. It's a long one, and a good one at that. Even after all this time, author Stephenie Meyer, the Mormon mother of three who became an overnight literary sensation with the 2005 publication of her young-adult novel "Twilight," can't explain the phenomenon that surrounds the grand romance between vampire Edward Cullen and human teenager Bella Swan, characters played on-screen by Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. "I don't know what makes people love it, I don't know what makes people hate it," said Meyer, seated comfortably in a suite of a Beverly Hills hotel. "But I do know that the feeling of being in love is a good feeling. We want to feel that emotion." "I've always said that," Stewart said to Meyer, sitting beside her. "It's so vicarious. It's not like you are watching two people or reading two people. You feel like you are doing it. It...
