'The Storytellers: New Voices of the Twilight Saga' Project Launched

Image
A new contest is launched in conjunction with The Storytellers: New Voices of the Twilight Saga, "The Storytellers — New Voices of The Twilight Saga" was motivated by the desire to provide new female voices with an opportunity to be heard. All of us at Lionsgate, Tongal, Facebook, Volvo Cars, and Women In Film, along with Stephenie Meyer, are enormously excited about this endeavor, and have come together to create a forum for you to exchange creative ideas in support of each other’s visions. We encourage you to be inventive. Just because the movies interpreted the books one way, it doesn’t mean other new ideas won’t be equally as wonderful.  Our choice to bring this opportunity to female writers and directors addresses a larger need for more content by, for, and about women. As you join the world of The Twilight Saga’s new creative voices, have fun and think with your heart. You are the storytellers. We are here to listen to you. And we can’t wait! Five new Short Fil...

Coming Soon to Facebook: New Twilight Short Films

Image
It's a revival! Twilight will be having another moment in the pop culture spotlight (as if it ever left!), thanks to a new announcement by Lions Gate (current owner of Summit). The New York Times reports: Lions Gate and Stephenie Meyer, the creator of the vampires-and-werewolves “Twilight” saga, on Tuesday announced plans to select five aspiring female directors to make short films based on “Twilight” characters. The mini-movies, financed by Lions Gate and its production partners, will be shown exclusively on Facebook next year. The short film series, called “The Storytellers — New Creative Voices of ‘The Twilight Saga,’ ” has the backing of Women in Film, an organization devoted in part to ending a shortage of female directors. While not overtly championed by Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s chief operating officer, the initiative could be viewed in the context of her “Lean In” efforts to empower women in the workplace.

Robert Pattinson in Esquire UK

Image
Rob Pattinson is featured on the September issue of Esquire UK . He discusses about The Rover and Maps to the Stars , among many other things. Last summer, he finished The Rover in Australia, a dystopian western from David Michôd, who made 2010’s brilliant Animal Kingdom. Pattinson’s performance is already receiving rave reviews. He then spent 10 days on Maps to the Stars, David Cronenberg’s merciless satire about Hollywood, followed by Werner Herzog’s Queen of the Desert in which he plays Lawrence of Arabia. This spring, he made Anton Corbijn’s Life, in which he plays the photographer Dennis Stock, who took iconic photos of celebrities in the Fifties. And later, there’s a crime drama by the French director Olivier Assayas, co-starring Robert De Niro. These are just the confirmed productions. There’s a long list of other compelling indie projects in the pipeline. A film with James Gray (The Immigrant) based on David Grann’s book The Lost City of Z, and a couple of films that ...
